A new temporary beach near The O2 could host corporate events for up to 500 guests during the Olympic Games.
The organisers of the Peninsula Festival, which will be held on Greenwich Peninsula from 19 July – 13 August, have been granted planning permission to create the four-acre site using tons of sand.
The beach will open to the public on 1 June and offer sports facilities like an Olympic-sized volleyball court, space for live music and other events, restaurants, deck chairs and play areas for children. Sections will be available to hire for parties and corporate hospitality throughout the year.
It can hold 5,000 visitors and is licensed to remain in its location until 2017.
During the Olympics, the venue’s capacity will be limited to 500 people due to safety restrictions. Robert Dobson, sales manager, sponsorship and hospitality for Peninsula Festival, told Event it is looking for a sponsor for the beach: “The sponsor could use the beach as they wanted during the Olympics, and due to the restricted capacity it would have to be for invite-only events, most likely coporate events for clients.”
Peninsula Festival Ltd, which will run the new venue, also announced that it is finalising the programme for its Peninsula Festival in the wider Greenwich Peninsula.
The event will offer big screens showing Olympic coverage, live music, a campsite and a VIP village for corporate entertainment. Twenty tall ships will cruise up the River Thames from Woolwich Arsenal Pier to Tower Bridge and back as part of the festival.
Over the last few years, hire kits have become increasingly popular, mainly due to smaller production budgets and the need to prevent ongoing storage costs.
With this in mind we have produced a range of stock hire kits that can be expanded, reduced and adapted to suit a client’s needs perfectly. With our range of optional extras which include plasma screens, sampling bins, lighting, counters and much more, these hire kits really can be tailor made to your exact requirements.
Utilising our range of stock aluminium frames which form the structure of most of our kits, clients can create their own kit designs and submit them for costing. 3D CAD versions of our stock frames and a range of optional extras to assist with the design process.
To assist in the pitching process of our stock stands, plain 3D renders from each angle can be supplied to allow the end client’s branding to be applied. This service is also available on bespoke builds at additional cost.

With exciting new things happening at Island we wanted to keep clients, suppliers (and anyone else who may be interested) informed as to what exactly was going on.
So here we are, somewhere for us to promote new services, new products, latest projects and anything else we think may be of interest and even some things that probably won’t be but we think are cool. The new Island website is currently under construction and we have been assured that this will be up and running by the end of this week barring any kind of mechanical disaster or industrial action by the technical whizz (pictured above) creating it. Over the coming days/weeks we will be posting details of our updated print capabilities, our rather exciting new range of stock hire stands and audio viisual offerings and customisable mobile apps.
